Thanks for visiting Fill the Cracks for the month of April for the A to Z celebration. I am participating this year (my 5th year) from this blog (and from my Moondustwriter blog) with the hope of creating awareness for children orphaned by Ebola something the news doesn’t cover. Did you know that more than 16,000 children lost one or both parents to Ebola?
“A Song for Liberia” is a compilation of poetry from poets around the world that will hopefully be published this spring. All the proceeds will go to an organization that is feeding, housing and clothing orphans of Ebola in Liberia. The second goal is to raise support (moral) as I am trying to pack my present into boxes in order to travel to Africa to work for a friend who just started a home/school for orphans.

Dear Africa:
Today I packed the first item into my suitcase: 100 nylon flying disks in my luggage. Who are the children (and adults) that will be tossing them about? I long to meet them, to see their faces, to become part of their lives…
I looked at my long list of things I must do before I come to you. Someone seems to be feeding the list when I am not looking. I grow tired of the waiting, but I must be responsible with the tasks I must accomplish first. So I will paint, hammer and lay tile all to beckon a buyer to our home.
Check mark – I packed my first thing in my luggage.

Any ideas of small things (for children) that fit into a suitcase ?

Small things to fit into a suitcase for children – how about yo-yos? Found you through the A-Z Challenge. What an interesting pursuit you are on. Thank you for sharing info about orphaned children via Ebola. I had no idea. Keep up the good work! http://www.dianeweidenbenner.com

Indeed yo-yos are great plus fun to teach them how to use them 🙂

I confess to being someone who didn’t think about orphans. As a parent, I thought about the parents who had lost children. It’s terrible how quickly things fall out of the news forefront.

Yes as a parent the thought of our children dying before is hard to conceptualize.

Love your theme.
There was a lot of coverage about Ebola while the epidemic was going on (at least, here in Italy), but now I hardly hear about it. I’m happy it was overcome, of course, but you are right to make us aware that its distructrion isn’t over yet.

I usually carry playing cards, because Hungarians have their own set (different from French cards) and people find them fascinating 🙂 I also carry a lot of stories as a storyteller…
I hope you travel goes well! 🙂
